Lab-13-Modifying a Virtual Machine

here in thislab we are  modifying the  the Virtual Virtual machines. It is similar to the the  normal virtual environment.

In this lab, we are going to

1) Adjust memory allocation of virtual machine,

2)add Raw LUN to machine,

3)Inflate the disk.

here we will use the hot clone machine that we have made

here we are going to resize the hard disk i have increased 15 Gb to 16 Gb

go to the cloned machine i named it as ‘HOT-CLONE-1’ right click it edit settings as shown below

Screenshot (1854)

increase the space give depending on your requirement i have increased from 15 to 16 gb , then the size will be increased

Screenshot (1855)

now iam renaming the machine i gave the name as ‘deepak1-4’

Screenshot (1863)

select the machie and  edit the settings for the machine ‘deepak1-2’now we are going to add a raw lun to the machine

add a RDM device for this as shown below

Screenshot (1868)

if we verify for a lun it was not there for me as shown below

Screenshot (1869)

again i went to netapp and created a new LUN by giving the name as LUN 3

13thlab lun

then i added  successfully, here the machines are successfully in on state Screenshot (1874)

now we are going to expand the thin provision go to the home then to storage  then click on the training select the machine that we want to inflate as shown below

Screenshot (1876)

here are the options how to go and inflate

we  have to inflate the disk or expand a thin-provisioned virtual disk. A virtual disk in thin format uses only as much space on the datastore as needed. This means that, if we  create a 15 GB virtual disk and place 5 GB of data in it, only the 5 GB of space on the datastore will be used, but the performance will not be as good as with the other two disk types. That is why you will try doing the inflate of disk.

Screenshot (1879)

after success full inflation the details of the machines can be seen

go to the hosts and clusters then to related objects then to the virtual machines there we can see the space and availability all the things

Screenshot (1884)

while creating the raw  LUN make sure that you have enough space

while increasing the hard drive space also be careful  , make it depending on your convenience

critical analysis:

here it was explained that how to manage or increase or decrease the size of the virtual machine depending on the need and convenience , we have added a Raw Lun to the virtual machine this helps in increasing the space  of the machine this is helpful when a machine runs out of the space by this way we can adjust it

we have one the process of inflation by this inflation we can see the details of a machine like how much space has been used how much still is there to be used

we can alert ourselves when we are at peak demands
